Adjunct Faculty
Adjunct faculty are temporary or casual employees that receive a set amount of pay over a specified period of time for teaching.
Adjunct faculty are not eligible for benefits. The following forms are required before the BSC can establish a job record:
- Signed offer letter
- Background Check (must be completed and approved prior to beginning work)
- Campus Mailing Address Form
- I-9 and W-4 Forms
Please allow sufficient lead time for all forms to be completed to ensure no delay in the first day of work (refer to the New Employee Checklist for recommended completion dates). The appointee may access Wise to sign up for Direct Deposit.
Adjunct Hourly
Adjunct hourly employees are temporary or casual employees paid on an hourly basis and enter hours worked into Wise (Web Time Entry) for approval by the supervisor and in order to be paid.
Adjunct hourly employees are not eligible for benefits. The following forms are required before the BSC can establish a job record:
- Background Check (must be completed and approved prior to beginning work)
- Campus Mailing Address Form
- I-9 and W-4 Forms

Adjunct Stipend
Adjunct stipend employees are temporary or casual employees that receive a set amount of pay over a specified period of time.

Postdoctoral Appointments
Postdoctoral appointees are pre-professionals who hold the Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree and come to the University for a limited period under the guidance of a University of New Hampshire faculty mentor to further their professional development by engaging in independent or original research or teaching, or an advanced training program.
Refer to the UNH policy on postdoctoral appointments for further information. The following forms are required before the BSC can establish a job record:
- Signed offer letter
- Background Check (must be completed and approved prior to beginning work)
- Campus Mailing Address Form
- I-9 and W-4 Forms

Research & Teaching Assistants
Graduate appointments are made to post-baccalaureate students who have been regularly or provisionally admitted to the Graduate School and who have been recommended by the appropriate department or program and approved for appointment by the Graduate School.
Teaching Assistant allocations are determined annually during budget prep meetings. Research assistants are supported for a minimum of one semester, including stipend, tuition, and health insurance. Refer to the Grad School policy for more information regarding graduate appointments. The following forms are required before the BSC can establish a job record:
- Appointment letter
- Background Check (must be completed and approved prior to beginning work)
- Campus Mailing Address Form
- I-9 and W-4 Forms

Student Hourly
Students paid on an hourly basis, including college work-study, enter hours worked into WISE (Web Time Entry) for approval by the supervisor and in order to be paid.
Hourly students are not eligible for benefits. The following forms are required before the BSC can establish a job record:
- Background Check (only for students working with hazardous materials)
- Campus Mailing Address Form
- I-9 and W-4 Forms
- Federal Work-Study Authorization (via Blackboard)
