MATH 418 - Analysis and Applications of Functions

Analysis and applications of algebraic and transcendental functions, with special emphasis on exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. Graphical analysis. Written projects are required on some or all of the following topics: rates of change, optimization, logarithmic or exponential modeling, and trigonometric functions. Intended for students planning to take MATH 425.
When will MATH 418 be offered?
MATH 418 is offered every fall and spring semester, as well as during the summer.
What grade do I need in order to advance to MATH 425, Calculus I?
Students are required to earn a grade of C or better in MATH 418 to advance to MATH 425. A grade of C- in MATH 418 is not sufficient for entry into MATH 425.
I want to audit MATH 418 instead of taking it for credit. Am I allowed to do this?
A student can audit any course at UNH with instructor permission.
If I audit MATH 418 instead of taking it for credit, can I advance to MATH 425, Calculus I?
No. The prerequisites for MATH 425 are a grade of C or better in MATH 418, or a qualifying score on the ALEKS Placement Assessment. If you audit MATH 418, you will have to pass the Placement Assessment in order to advance to MATH 425.
I took MATH 418 but did not earn a grade of C or better. Can I take the Placement Assessment to get into calculus?
No. Beginning in Spring 2019, students who have taken MATH 418 may not take the Placement Assessment as a means of entry into MATH 425.
