A kilometer scale, floating long lines kelp growing farm will be designed and mathematically modeled. Innovative features include a tethered hydrofoil to induce nutrient upwelling and wave diving buoys to submerge the system in storms. Testing of these devices has been done in the UNH wave tank.
This is a multi-institutional project funded by ARPA-E. Beth Zotter, Trophic Inc, is the lead. Michael Chambers, UNH Sea Grant Extension, is the UNH PI.
Faculty Advisors: Rob Swift and Igor Tsukrov.
