The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has a diverse group of faculty, representing areas of core and applied mathematics, mathematics education and statistics. We encourage and welcome all students who share our interests in the mathematical sciences to pursue a major or minor program of study. Our mission is to prepare students for a variety of exciting and rewarding career opportunities in business, industry, government and the teaching professions. Towards this end the Department offers a choice of eleven major programs, each designed to reflect the wide variety of applications of mathematics in the modern world.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Hampshire is small enough (19 tenure track faculty) to provide students personal attention. Our mission requires that we take active interest in our students and their progress. We encourage the communication of mathematics by holding undergraduate socials and other events which allow students and faculty to meet in settings other than the formal classroom. We have an active chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the national honor society in college mathematics. In addition to offering tutoring services, Pi Mu Epsilon provides an opportunity for our majors to meet each other, discuss mathematics, and develop leadership skills. We offer an honors program which gives students the opportunity to explore an advanced topic in their senior year. In these and many other ways, we reach out to all UNH students with an interest in mathematics.
