2019 Graduate Teaching Award

Marie-Josiane Ohoueu, Recipient of the 2019 Graduate Teaching Award

"I am originally from Paris, France (born and raised). After getting my high school degree in France I came to the United States with a track and field scholarship at the American International College (A.I.C., Springfield, MA) where I obtained my B.S. in biochemistry. I went on to get my M.S. in applied chemistry at the University of New Mexico where I started teaching for the first time as a T.A. for the chemistry laboratory courses. After I completed my Master's degree I was accepted to UNH and have been teaching general chemistry and organic chemistry laboratory courses.

Regarding teaching, I think what I like the most is the interaction with students and guiding them to successful understanding of the material taught to them. Giving students the tools to understand the material and being able to see the tremendous progress they make throughout the course is very satisfying; however, I find it challenging at times especially when it comes to finding the best way to present the various concepts for each of the students to assimilate/understand them properly.

I hope to find a job after graduation, either in an undergraduate teaching institution or in industry (post-doctoral or permanent position)."

Marie-Josiane is a fourth year graduate student in the research group of Prof. Marc Boudreau.

The Graduate Teaching award recognizes those students who have demonstrated excellence in their teaching activities.
