Requirements
Synopsis — Computer Engineering majors may pursue an “Honors in Computer Engineering” or a “University Honors” designation which appears on the diplomas and academic records of successful graduates.
Requirements — In order to achieve the Computer Engineering Honors-in-Major designation students are required to fulfill the following requirements:
- An overall, cumulative GPA of 3.40 or greater achieved by the beginning of the junior year and maintained each semester throughout the junior and senior years.
- 8 credits achieved in two ECE honors courses during the junior year.
- 8 credits achieved in an honors thesis developed during the senior year.
The University Honors designation additionally requires the fulfillment of the general honors program requirements defined by the University, which are not specific to ECE.
Honors Courses — University Honors and Honors-in-Major students must take ECE 633H - Signals and Systems I/Honors (4 credits) during the fall semester of their junior year, and ECE 647H - Random Processes and Signals in Engineering/Honors (4 credits) during the spring semester of their junior year. These honors courses are special sections of regular ECE courses which involve additional work assignments and one additional credit each semester during the junior year. Honors work includes, but is not restricted to, more in-depth laboratory assignments; additional laboratory or course assignments; research, analysis, or design projects; literature reviews; term papers; and presented lectures.
The Senior Thesis — University Honors and Honors-in-Major students must complete senior thesis research guided by a faculty advisor and resulting in a written thesis. During the first semester of the senior year students develop research plans, prepare and present written and oral research proposals, and begin their research activities. At the end of the first semester, students prepare a written research progress report. During the second semester of the senior year students complete their research and prepare a written senior honors thesis. The students also present their research results at the UNH Undergraduate Research Conference Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Symposium. Honors students must register for ECE 791H Senior Honors Thesis I (4 credits) during the fall semester of the senior year, and for ECE 792H Senior Honors Thesis II (4 credits) during the spring semester of the senior year. The 8 credit senior honors thesis replaces the 4-credit senior project and one 4-credit professional elective in the requirements for the non-Honors undergraduate program.
