Friday, April 12, 2024 - 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
DeMeritt Hall - Rm. 240
Speaker: Dr. Misak Sargsian – Professor, Dept. of Physics, Florida International University Host: Nathaly Santiesteban Title: Nuclear Forces and the Emergence of Structure in the Microworld Abstract: Stability of atomic nuclei is an important condition for the stability and the structure formation in the microscopic world. Yet we don’t know on the fundamental level why atomic nuclei are not collapsing. This question relates to the dynamics of the nuclear core which can be probed only in high energy experiments which only recently became available. The talk will present the ongoing exploration of the nuclear core, recent successes and open questions, as well as its relation to our understanding the dynamic of the superdense nuclear matter that may exist at the cores of neutron stars.
